Why Foster Parents are Needed

While institutionalization of vulnerable children should be a national concern, Kampala district represents a unique climate by sheltering most institutional orphanages and babies homes in the country. A disproportionate number of these children are from ages 0-14 year’s old, raising concern about the length of a childhood spent without an individual parent figure for attachment.

1. Over 15% of the children in institutional orphanages are placed before turning 6 months old.

2. In Uganda, 28% of children in institutional orphanages are less than 3 years old.

3. Material poverty rather than lack of caregivers is the dominant reason for placing children in institutional care.

Bridging the Gap

Our Strategy

Community support has helped us develop non-institutionalized foster care alternatives. Foster children are placed in individualized foster families that suit their personalities and needs just like any biological nuclear family. God is turning evil into good for His glory and helping communities regain their pride through their service to vulnerable children.

Foster parents aspire to rebuild childhoods as they make a living for themselves, to be self-sustaining in raising their foster child by the third year.

Our family caseworkers have been trained in nearly all aspects of child development and evidenced-based, trauma management and treatment interventions. We provide ongoing training and support to foster families who are providing traumatized children with a safe haven during a time of crisis and transition.

Foster Care Support Services

Our foster parents are their child’s advocate, they are the heart and soul of The way of God miracle Miracle Ministries. They live in the communities they serve and understand the needs of their foster children.

As a foster parent, you will go through: Foster Parent Recruitment and Training, Relative Foster Care, Traditional Foster Care, Informal to Formal Adoption Support information and training.

Foster Children at The Way of God Miracle Ministries

Children come into contact with The Way of God Miraclce Ministries from various traumatic situations. Some children are fleeing sexual or physical abuse, life on the streets, abandonment during chorionic illness, the death of all guardians, while others need only temporary protection as their families adjust to traumatic events such as the death or imprisonment of a breadwinner and guardians.
Many of the children suffer from a spirit of rejection resulting from repeated voluntary or involuntary abandonment or mistreatment.
The Way of God Miracle Ministries places children and youth in a range of foster care families based on a child’s unique care plan. Currently, The Way of God Miracle Ministries has registered and trained 4 foster parents to care for the varied group of children that come in contact with us.

Some parents have specialized skill sets in caring for severely traumatized children while others are not. Children are matched with foster parents according to their unique needs and temperament to encourage stable and safe child placements.

Our Goal

Our Impact

In our first year of existence, we have rescued 20 children from dangerous living conditions, reunited 5 unattached children with both kin and nonkin foster parents. The Way of God Miracle Ministries is shaping a community environment that focuses on the unique, social-emotional needs of vulnerable children and youth who have experienced trauma through institutional orphanages or repeated abandonment.
